The Lake Garda castle 

The Castello Scaligero, in Sirmione, near Lake Garda, takes its name from the Veronese emperors in the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries. Goethe was jailed in 1786 for sketching the castle in a way that raised suspicions!

Aragonese Castle

Located on a tiny volcanic island connected to Ischia by a 720-foot bridge, it was built in the 5th century B.C. To protect it from pirates, Alfonso of Aragon fortified it in the 15th century.
